Background of Kurilpa Kitchen
The Kurilpa Kitchen project was the result of a previous project of the Australian Pensioners’ and Superannuants’ League, Qld Inc. called “What’s Food Got to do With It? - Barriers to Healthy Eating Choices for Older People”. Recommendations 6 and 7 from the report highlighted the need for a community restaurant to be trialed. The need of the restaurant is to provide a social aspect to meal delivery with easy access whilst ensuring that the different cultural, locality and community needs of clients are met.
The Home and Community Care (HACC) specifically funds the Kurilpa Kitchen for clients in the Brisbane South area. Funding received is used to employ a cook. The League also receives one-off funds from the Brisbane City Council to hire a community/ethnic worker and for equipment.
